The University of Juba today hosted the Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Kiir, for a high-level consultative meeting focused on infrastructure development and staff welfare.

During the visit, Hon. Adut Kiir met with the Vice Chancellor, John A. Akec, to discuss key challenges facing the institution. The envoy also toured the University’s administration and several core facilities to assess the current condition of infrastructure.

The inspection revealed that while a number of facilities remain operational, others require urgent renovation and upgrading to meet the increasing demands of a rapidly growing student population and academic workforce.

Prof. Akec briefed the envoy on several development projects initiated in previous years that remain incomplete due to funding constraints. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing these projects to improve both the learning environment for students and working conditions for staff.

In response, Hon. Adut Kiir acknowledged the challenges and underscored the need for sustained government support to institutions of higher learning. She highlighted the importance of enhancing staff welfare, particularly for lecturers, and strengthening the overall academic environment.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between the government and the University of Juba in addressing institutional challenges and advancing the quality of higher education in South Sudan.
