Prof. John Apuruot Akec

Prof. John Apuruot Akec is a South Sudanese professor of engineering, academic leader, and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba. He served as Vice Chancellor from 2014 to 2024 and played a key role in strengthening the university’s academic programs, research capacity, and institutional development. Prof. Akec holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Gezira, a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Wales, and a PhD in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham. Before joining the University of Juba, he served as the founding Vice Chancellor of the University of Northern Bahr el Ghazal. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in teaching, research, and leadership in higher education, contributing to the development of universities in South Sudan.
